Table Quiz night in Limerick a big success

Thanks to all who supported the annual Soweto Connection Quiz night. Over 1,400 Euro was raised, all of which will go to benefit our partner groups in South Africa and their clients.

Eleven teams took part in the annual Soweto Connection table quiz in the Brazen Head, Limerick on 9th December. The winning team, who got an impressive 55 out of 60 questions correct, donated their prize money back to the cause.

All the quiz and raffle prizes on the night were kindly sponsored. Thanks to UNITE the Union, O'Mahoney's Bookshop, The Absolute Hotel, The Carlton Castletroy Park, Gleeson's Spar (Limerick & Castletroy), Align Consulting, and Superquin for their support.

Half of the money raised on the night will go towards the Shout Out To Sean appeal. Oarsman Sean McGowan and Soweto Connection hope to raise enough money to build a new nutrition centre in the township of Khayelitsha outside Cape Town. Soweto Connection’s partner in this project is Philani, a community based organisation with almost 30 years experience in the area.

The remainder will go towards helping some of Soweto Connection's other partner groups. Regular funding is provided to some of these to help with the care and education of children affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. In other cases the cost of essential services, buildings or community projects are covered. All this is thanks to the generosity of Irish people who continue to give. Long may it continue!
